Hallock Raup papers, 1910-1986.

Papers documenting the personal and professional life of Hallock Raup, professor of geography at Kent State University. The Hallock Raup papers cover the period 1917 to 1986 and include personal correspondence, professional research and writing, subject files and a small collection of early twentieth-century glass lantern slides. The personal correspondence includes letters from Raup to his parents (1917-1950) and a large collection of letters from his friend John B. Nicholson, former director of the Kent State University Libraries (1975-1985). The papers also include a number of published geography articles, monographs and books chapters by Raup along with some of the corresponding research and manuscripts. Notably, Raup worked on the text of an unpublished book on local photographer, Arthur Trory. The glass lantern slides date from the early 1900s to the early 1950s and were likely used in teaching. Some were professionally produced for sale while others were made by Raup himself to accompany his presentations.
